What are SATs?
Children in English schools take SATs twice during their school career. The Scottish curriculum does not include SATs testing.
The first time SATs are taken by students is in Key Stage 1, they will have tests in Year 2, at the end of infants they are tested in mathematics and English (reading and spelling, punctuation and grammar). Teachers do try to keep the testing procedure informal and low key – the papers are not strictly timed, and are taken in a normal classroom situation to keep the pressure from the children.
HB Tutoring provides UK wide SAT home tuition so you can find a cost effective service near you.
SATs are a set of assessments which children will sit to ensure they are progressing through the curriculum.
Key Stage 1 SATs (Year 2)
The majority of children are expected to achieve a level 2;
- Level 2a: The child is working at the top of the level and is starting to achieve level 3
- Level 2b: The child is secure within this level.
- Level 2c: The child has started to access this level
The SATs tests are conducted by the class teacher on a set date. Where they will work through the tests. The outcome of these tests is sent to parents at the end of the summer term.
The Scottish curriculum does not include SATs testing however as previously advised.
What Parents are Saying
"Our son is home tutored and receiving tuition from HB Tutoring. HB Tutoring deal with the local council and arrange our son to sit exams as an external candidate. This is a great help to us and takes a weight off our minds, thank you."
"Our family recently moved areas. We remained with HB Tutoring and they gave us a new tutor and helped our children’s education carry on smoothly as they liaised with the schools and our tutors both worked with HB Tutoring. This was very helpful as English is not our mother tongue."
"George is doing so well. His English teachers were both surprised and delighted with his mock results"
