Our numeracy & literacy tutors provide professional tutoring, flexible around your needs.
Adults with poor numeracy skills are twice as likely to find it difficult to get into employment than those who enjoy some competency in numeracy. Those adults with at least basic numeracy skills can expect to earn a quarter more than those who lack the necessary skills to solve basic mathematical problems.
Adults with poor numeracy & literacy skills are therefore less likely to be able to save money on day-to-day affairs, like a visit to the supermarket.
Furthermore, they are also less likely to be able to find or negotiate the best deals on financial products and therefore more likely to pay a higher level of interest on higher levels of debt. It is well documented that debt problems can lead to anxiety, stress and/or depression. Between a third and a half of people who have poor numeracy & literacy skills have a desire to improve them and less than 4% have actually attended any numeracy classes.
16.4% of adults in England, or 7.1 million people, can be described as having ‘very poor literacy skills.’ They can understand short straightforward texts on familiar topics accurately and independently, and obtain information from everyday sources, but when it comes to reading information from unfamiliar sources, or on unfamiliar topics, could cause problems.
Many adults are very reluctant to admit to their numeracy & literacy difficulties and will not ask for help. One of the most important aspects of supporting adults with low literacy levels is to increase their self-esteem and persuade them of the benefits of improving their reading and writing.

"Our family recently moved areas. We remained with HB Tutoring and they gave us a new tutor and helped our children’s education carry on smoothly as they liaised with the schools and our tutors both worked with HB Tutoring. This was very helpful as English is not our mother tongue."
